‘Rice eaters will laugh at me when I am broke’ – Singer The singer who has been inactive in his music career has no plans to get married. When he does, it will be a discreet affair.

Ketchup is careful about having an extravagant wedding party based on family interest and a submission that prospective guests will have no qualms laughing at him if he goes broke.

He expressed this in an interview published by Vanguard News on Saturday, January 20, 2018, which saw him clarify that he is not looking to tie the knot as was earlier perceived. The singer explained that a video which suggested that he was getting ready to wed was actually in preparation for a friend’s event.

But when he eventually decides on getting married, it won’t be a secret affair neither will it be noisy, as has been observed with fellow entertainers.

According to the songster, maintaining discretion in his dealings is of utmost importance.

“People have been calling to wish me a happy married life because they believe I’m secretly getting married. The video I posted was just about me preparing for a friend’s wedding taking place on Saturday (today).

“Yeah, when I’m getting married I wouldn’t get married secretly but silently, my job is already loud enough, that is exactly how I will like to handle my private life.

“Different people with different vibes you know, just to keep my private life out of the people’s reach. I’ll rather save for my family than share rice round the town; God forbid if something goes wrong some of these same rice eaters will be the same ones to laugh at me,” says Ketchup who has had a quiet music career in recent times.

The singer whose ‘Show me your rozay’ hit track released in November 2012, took the attention of music lovers all over Nigeria, has had to deal with family and personal health issues during the course of his career.

These contributed to a lack of action in the entertainment scene. He confirmed this in a July 2017, chat with Vanguard News.

“When I dropped ‘Show me your rozay’, it was like a national anthem in Nigeria at that time. There are a lot of things that you can’t explain to everybody; when I dropped Show me your rozay I lost my dad; I’m from an Igbo family and I’m the first child and I had to go through surgery on my right leg.

“The doctor was like if I don’t do this surgery I won’t dance again ever, and dancing is my life. I was a little drawn back at the time because Show me your rozay was a little faster than me at that time. I had to attend to family and my health at the same time, I wasn’t really out there as I should have been.

“That’s why sometimes I like to introduce myself when I meet people, so that’s one of the complications I think affected me as an artiste.

“The industry also ran me down a lot of times when I was trying to push my music and nobody knew what I actually looked like, some people thought I was Jamaican because my music was out there but you wouldn’t know it’s me,” the singer revealed.

Ketchup unsurprisingly understands the concept of music especially when it concerns the dancehall genre.

In an August 2015, interview with Pulse TV, the singer got down to explain the difference between the Nigerian version of the latter and Caribbean variety.

Remember when the music legend was shot by armed robbers in 2007? In 2007, 2face Idibia narrowly escaped death on the streets of Lagos, this is the story.

2face Idibia in the hospital after he was shot by armed robbers

It’s Thursday again and we would like to take you back to the time when music icon 2Face was robbed in 2007.

The date was Thursday, October 4, 2007. 2face Idibia was in a car with a couple of friends including Ifeanyi Odogwu brother to the singer, Faze when they were attacked by gunmen. 2face was shot on his thigh during the process.

According to Ifeanyi who gave a detailed account of what happened, he said the gunmen had with them, locally made guns.

“All I can remember is that at Cele Bus Stop along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in Lagos we suddenly started hearing ‘Open’ ‘Open’. An attempt by 2Face to open the door the man who had a locally made gun opened fire on him. 2Face himself started shouting ‘Run Run’,” he explained to Ayeni Adekunle who covered the story when it broke.

Thankfully, 2face wasn’t badly hurt as he had a laptop on his lap when he was shot at which prevented the bullets from penetrating deeply into his body.

After the ugly incident, 2Face was rushed to Cedar Group Hospital at Festac Town where he underwent a minor surgery to remove the 22 bullets from his thigh. This was the same hospital he was treated for his 2005 robbery attack.

At the time of the incident, 2Face was on his way to FESTAC Town from Murtala Mohammed international airport. He had just won the “Best African Act” at the 12th edition of MOBO awards in London when he was attacked by robbers.

On Monday, October 8, 2007, 2face Idibia during his recovery process spoke to the media. “I thank God. ‘Cos I know it’s not luck. The bullet could have hit me somewhere more dangerous. So I really thank God, and I’m really trying to understand what he’s trying to tell me with this incident” said 2face Idibia.

The singer further said “we didn’t know it was robbers. We even thought it was a car trying to ram into us. It was not until I saw the gun, and heard the shot that I realised what they wanted. So I told my guy, let’s find our way o… these guys mean business. I didn’t even know the bullet hit me. It was while we were running, that my left leg started failing me, that I realised what had happened.”

“It’s really sad; that people would allow frustration lead them into doing such things. There are people on the road, selling stuff, trying so hard to make it. Nothing comes easy in life; you’ve just got to keep trying. I pray they’ll convert all the energy they use to organise those attacks into doing positive things that’ll help their lives.

2face Idibia spoke about the robbery incident in a private hospital because of the amount of well wishers that trooped over the weekend at the hospital in FESTAC.

Thankfully, 2face Idibia has not been attacked by robbers ever since then.

We reported earlier here that Nollywood filmmaker, Chukwuka Emelionwu aka Kasvid died in a fatal accident along Oraukwu, on his way to his village in Anambra state.
He produced the popular movie “Mr Ibu in London”.
It was gathered that the accident that claimed his life happened after he left a burial at his home town, Neni, in Anambra state.
He was said to have managed to squeeze himself out of the vehicle safely and was crossing over to the other side of the road to make a call when an oncoming speeding vehicle knocked him down. People rushed him to the hospital. He lost lots of blood and died three hours later.
The road where he had the accident is said to have experienced a lot of accidents.

Former Governor of Anambra state now Minister of Employment, Chris Ngige,  reportedly had a terrible accident on the same road when he was in office. He squeezed himself out of a broken Gwagon after it sumersaulted leaving a dead driver inside.
Recall that in November 2016, top Nollywood producer and Director, Ansa Bassey Kpokpogri died at age 36. The Calabar-born mother of one reportedly died of pains from peptic ulcer.
